Highwood Square is a new, 48,000 SF mixed-use development in Hamden, CT. This project consisted of a combination of new construction and renovation work to provide living and studio space for local artists, as well as 14,000 SF of commercial space.
Building A was an adaptive re-use of an 11,000 SF existing 1920’s brick warehouse and office building to include a 10,000 SF 2nd floor new addition consisting of both wood and structural steel framing. The existing first floor was renovated into open studio space with a main gallery area for displays of artwork with a loading dock area. The new second floor addition was constructed for ten wood-framed apartments.
Building B was a new, three-story, 19,000 SF wood and structural steel-framed apartment complex that included 27 units of affordable housing and ground-floor studio and commercial space. Exterior construction materials for this building included a mixture of brick masonry and metal paneling, which added a degree of difficulty to the construction.
Building C was a 4,500 SF renovation to a brick masonry building for commercial space.
